Born into a modest family from the Basse-Ville district of Fribourg, he succeeded in becoming a racing driver legend.

Jo Siffert was one of the rare Swiss, along with Clay Regazzoni, to be victorious on Formula 1 circuits (6 podiums including 2 first prizes). His victories were even more praiseworthy in that Jo Siffert was one of the last independent racing drivers and owned his own vehicle.

From a modest family of the Basse-Ville district of Fribourg, Jo Siffert became a veritable idol of the people, incarnating social and financial success. Thanks to his talent and hard work, he managed to carve out a place for himself in a milieu that is a priori reserved for a privileged population. On October 24, 1971, when he was at the height of his glory, Jo Siffert met his death on Britain's Brands Hatch circuit when his car caught fire after going off the track. His funeral became a large-scale event: over 50'000 people went to St-Nicholas Cathedral in Fribourg to pay a last tribute to him
